Middleton Rugby Club was founded in 2005 under the guidance of Paul “Guido” Stroede. In that inaugural season, the club took 5th at state. Since then MRC has finished second and third in Division 2 in 2013 and 2014 respectively. 2015 was a historic year for the club, as the club was moved up to the much more competitive Division 1 and managed to finish 2nd in the state, following a narrow loss to Pulaski Rugby in the state title game.
MRC re-identified as Middleton Area Rugby Club in 2015, in order to reflect the changing numbers of players from schools other than Middleton High School, namely James Madison Memorial High School, and Waunakee. In fall 2016, MARC began play in the inaugural season of Wisco 7s. Wisco 7s is the first and only high school sevens tournament series and MARC has made a strong showing the last few seasons.
Paul Stroede passed the Head Coach torch to Matt Bremser in 2017. In 2018, MARC won its first state championship in Division 2. Middleton moved up to Division 1 in 2019 and placed 3rd, and in 2021 MARC took 2nd in D2 finals. MARC placed 3rd place in Division 2 in Coach Bremser last year as Head Coach. Matt Davey the new Head Coach and third coach in MARC history will be looking to compete for our second cup in club history in 2023. MARC rugby started a Middle School program to help grow the sport in the area and will be run by Coach Bremser.

The Madison Exiles Rugby Football Club welcomes players from Madison’s La Follette High School 9th – 12th grade and other area schools (Madison East, Sun Prairie, etc.) that do not have rugby.
After a brief hiatus, the Exiles are back in 2023 with the mission of promoting the sport of rugby to high school aged youth by promoting safety, maximizing participant enjoyment, providing sound knowledge of the game, and upholding the highest sportsmanship standards.
The Madtown Furies are Dane County’s only girls high school rugby team and were founded in 2015. The Furies have Co-Oped with several programs and are currently playing in conjunction with OshKosh and Fond du Lac rugby. Multiple Furies have played for the Wisconsin Selects, Badger Selects, Stars Rugby, and EIRA academy.
Furies alumni are playing with Colorado School of Mines, University of Wisconsin (Madison and Oshkosh), University of Minnesota and several women’s clubs including the Wisconsin Women’s Rugby Football club and Dallas Reds women’s rugby. 2023-24 is looking to be a good year for girls rugby!
